Disk Management

About disk management

You can manage the disk drives installed in the BIG-IP system using the Configuration utility.
Platforms that contain more than one disk drive support drive mirroring using RAID. In an array of two disks (for example, HD1 and HD2), the mirrored volumes are named MD1.1, MD1.2, and MD1.3.
On platforms containing only a single disk drive, the volumes are named HD1.1, HD1.2, and so on.

About managing disk arrays

You can manage the disk array in the BIG-IP system using the Configuration utility.

Add a disk to an array

You can use the Configuration utility to add a disk to an array.
Disk arrays apply only to BIG-IP systems that contain hard disk drives (HDDs). These features are not available on systems that contain solid-state drives (SSDs).
  1. On the Main tab, click
    System
    Disk Management
    .
    The Disk Management screen displays a list of disks installed in the system.
  2. For the
    Software and Mixed Mode Disks
    setting, select a Disk Name.
  3. Click
    Add Disk to Array
    .
  4. Confirm that you would like to add the selected disk to the array.
    This destroys any data on the disk.
    When the disk is being added to the array, for the
    Software and Mixed Mode Disks
    area, the Array Status column changes to
    Replicating
    for that disk. When the replication process is complete, the Array Status column changes to
    OK
    .

Remove a disk from an array

You can use the Configuration utility to remove a disk from an array.
Removing a disk from the array destroys all data on the disk.
Disk arrays apply only to BIG-IP systems that contain hard disk drives (HDDs). These features are not available on systems that contain solid-state drives (SSDs).
  1. On the Main tab, click
    System
    Disk Management
    .
    The Disk Management screen displays a list of disks installed in the system.
  2. For the
    Software and Mixed Mode Disks
    setting, select a Disk Name.
  3. Click
    Remove Disk From Array
    .
  4. Confirm that you would like to remove the selected disk from the array.
    This destroys any data on the disk.
    When the disk is removed from the array, for the
    Software and Mixed Mode Disks
    area, the Array Status column changes to
    Undefined
    for that disk.
