Note:
- F5 BiDi optical transceiver module are compatible with similar optics from other vendors, but this compatibility is not based on an IEEE standard. F5 only guarantees BiDi optical transceiver module support on F5 platforms. Cross-vendor interoperability at 100G is best-effort and is not guaranteed. If you experience issues with third-party optics, contact F5 Support.
- All F5 rSeries platforms use the same devices to connect to the front panel optics. Any optic qualified on an r12000-DS is also compatible with an r12000-DF.
The below section shows the various interface port types and cable specifications.

Note:
- F5 only provides support for F5-branded or F5-provided copper transceiver and/or optical transceiver modules. Refer to K8153: F5 support of third-party hardware component.
- The below transceiver specifications are subject to change without notification.
- Ensure the suitability of both the optical fiber and the optical transceiver on the other end.
- UPC and APC connectors should not be mated together as they are not compatible. More importantly, UPC connectors should never be connected to APC ports and vice versa. This can damage the optical circuits in the electronics.
- Use only IEC/EN 60825-1 Class I SFP modules, and for safety ensure not to look directly into fiber cable ends.
- All photos shown are examples. The appearance of your components or accessories might vary slightly.
These copper GbE SFP transceiver modules are supported in F5 hardware platforms.
Important: 1000BASE-T network segments have a maximum length of 328 feet (100 meters) and must use Category 5 cable minimum. F5 recommends Category 5e or Category 6.

The module converts 8 channels of 50Gb/s (PAM4) electrical input data to 4 channels of parallel optical signals, each capable of 100Gb/s operation for an aggregate data rate of 400Gb/s. On the receiver side, the module converts 4 channels of parallel optical signals of 100Gb/s each channel for an aggregate data rate of 400Gb/s into 8 channels of 50Gb/s (PAM4) electrical output data.

This optical transceiver supports 400Gb/s bit rates. It is a parallel Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable—double density (QSFP-DD) Bi-Direction optical module. The module accepts eight host electrical data and transmits them into two groups of optical bi-directional lanes (each group contains 4 pairs of optical lane) to allow optical communication over optical multi-mode fibers. On the receiver side, the module accepts 8 sets of optical input signals and converts them to 8 channels of electrical data.
