Managing GSLB Prober Pools

How do I manage GSLB prober pools in BIG-IQ?

GSLB prober pools monitor health probes of the sync group servers to gather health and performance data about the sync group server resources. DNS uses this data to optimize its load balancing decisions.

You can view the GSLB prober pools configured for the DNS sync groups you manage by goingto Configuration > DNS > GSLB > Prober Pools . From there, click a pool to edit it, or click Create to set up a new pool.

Create a GSLB prober pool

If you want to perform monitor health probes of the sync group servers to gather health and performance data about the sync group server resources, you can create a GSLB prober pool. DNS uses this data to optimize its load balancing decisions.
  1. At the top of the screen, click Configuration, then, on the left, click DNS > GSLB > Prober Pools .
The screen displays the list of pools defined on this device.
  2. Click Create.
The New Prober Pool screen opens.
  3. Type a Name for the prober pool.
The name is limited to 63 characters. For names of wide IP CNAME pools, you can use two different wildcard characters in the wide IP CNAME pool name: asterisk (*) to represent several characters, and question mark (?) to represent a single character. This reduces the number of aliases you have to add to the configuration.
  4. Select a Sync Group for this new prober pool.
  5. Specify the additional settings needed to suit the requirements for this prober pool.
Name and Sync Group are the only required parameters when you create a prober pool. The remaining parameters on this screen are optional and perform the same function as they do when you configure a prober pool on a BIG-IP device.
Note: For details about the purpose or function of a particular setting, refer to the BIG-IP DNS Knowledge Center information on support.f5.com.
  6. Click Save & Close.

Edit a GSLB prober pool

You can view and modify the properties for existing GSLB prober pools. Since you are working with an existing pool, you can modify only some settings.
  1. At the top of the screen, click Configuration, then, on the left, click DNS > GSLB > Prober Pools .
The screen displays the list of pools defined on this device.
  2. Click the name of the prober pool you want to edit.
Note: Unless noted here, the parameters on this screen perform the same function as they do when you configure a pool on a BIG-IP device. For details about the purpose or function of a particular setting, refer to the BIG-IP reference information on support.f5.com.
The screen displays the current settings for the selected pool.
  3. Make the changes to the settings you want to revise and then, when your edits are complete, click Save & Close.
