Managing GSLB Topology Regions

How do I manage GSLB topology regions in BIG-IQ?

Topology regions define a specific geographical location that has meaning for your network. These regions are especially useful in conjunction with topology records to improve the efficiency of your load balancing.

You can view the GSLB topology regions configured for the DNS sync groups you manage by navigating to Configuration > DNS > GSLB > Topology Regions. From there, click a region to edit it, or click Create to set up a new one.

Create a GSLB topology region

You create a GSLB topology region to define a specific geographical location that has meaning for your network.
  1. At the top of the screen, click Configuration, then, on the left, click DNS > GSLB > Topology Regions.
The screen displays the list of topology regions defined on this device.
  2. Click Create.
The New Topology Region screen opens.
  3. Select a Sync Groupfor the topology region.
  4. Type a Name for the topology region.
  5. If you want to specify a different Partition, type it in.
Only users with access to a partition can view the objects (such as the topology region) that the partition contains. The default is Common which means all users can access it.
  6. Specify the Region Members
    1. Select a Member Type and provide the applicable information.
    2. For Is/Is Not:, specify whether you want the system to select this topology region, either when the request source matches (is), or when it does not match (is not).
  7. Click Save & Close.
The system creates the new topology region and adds it to the list of topology regions.

Edit a GSLB topology region

You can view and modify the properties for existing GSLB topology regions. Since you are working with an existing topology region, you can modify only some settings.
  1. At the top of the screen, click Configuration, then, on the left, click DNS > GSLB > Topology Regions.
The screen displays the list of topology regions defined on this device.
  2. Click the name of the topology region you want to edit.
Note: Unless noted here, the parameters on this screen perform the same function as they do when you configure a topology region on a BIG-IP device. For details about the purpose or function of a particular setting, refer to the BIG-IP reference information on support.f5.com.
The screen displays the current settings for the selected topology region.
  3. Make the changes to the settings you want to revise and then, when your edits are complete, click Save & Close.
The system updates the topology region with the settings that you specified.
