Managing GSLB Wide IPs

How do I manage a GSLB wide IP in BIG-IQ?

A wide IP maps a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) to one or more pools of virtual servers that host the content of a domain. When a local domain name server issues a DNS name resolution for a wide IP, the configuration of the wide IP indicates which pools of virtual servers are eligible to respond to the request, and which load balancing methods BIG-IP DNS uses to select the pool.

You can view the GSLB wide IPs configured for the DNS sync groups you manage by navigating to Configuration > GSLB > DNS > Wide IPs. From there, click a wide IP to edit it, or click Create to set up a new one.

Create a GSLB wide IP

You create a GSLB wide IP so that you can manage pools of virtual servers that host the content of your domain.
  1. At the top of the screen, click Configuration, then, on the left, click DNS > GSLB > Wide IPs.
The screen displays the list of wide IPs defined on this device.
  2. Click Create.
The New Wide IP screen opens.
  3. Type a Name for the GSLB wide IP.
  4. Select a Sync Group for the wide IP.
  5. Select the Type of wide IP.
  6. Specify the additional settings needed to suit the requirements for this wide IP.
Name, Sync Group, and Type are the only required parameters when you create a wide IP. The remaining parameters on this screen are optional and perform the same function as they do when you configure a wide IP on a BIG-IP device.
Note: For details about the purpose or function of a particular setting, refer to the BIG-IP reference information on support.f5.com.
  7. Click Save & Close.
The system creates the new wide IP and adds it to the list of wide IPs.

Edit a GSLB wide IP

You can view and modify the properties for existing GSLB wide IPs. Since you are working with an existing wide IP, you can modify only some settings.
  1. At the top of the screen, click Configuration, then, on the left, click DNS > GSLB > Wide IPs.
The screen displays the list of wide IPs defined on this device.
  2. Click the name of the wide IP you want to edit.
Note: Unless noted here, the parameters on this screen perform the same function as they do when you configure a wide IP on a BIG-IP device. For details about the purpose or function of a particular setting, refer to the BIG-IP reference information on support.f5.com.
The screen displays the current settings for the selected wide IP.
  3. Make the changes to the settings you want to revise and then, when your edits are complete, click Save & Close.
The system updates the wide IP with the settings you specified.
