About virtual servers

On BIG-IP® devices, virtual servers can have security objects, such as DoS profiles or log profiles, attached to them.

BIG-IQ virtual servers only support BIG-IP device profiles from the LTM module (/ltm/profile) and from the Security DoS module (/security/dos). If a BIG-IP device is discovered with virtual servers using another type of profile, an invalid profile error may be encountered during discovery and the BIG-IP device would not be discovered by the BIG-IQ® system.

To get help on any screen, click the (?) icon in the upper right corner.

Creating virtual servers

You do not create virtual servers within Shared Security.

Instead, you create virtual servers using the ADC service and then use them from within Shared Security. Select ADC from the BIG-IQ menu and click Virtual Servers to create a virtual server.

Editing virtual servers

You can modify virtual servers within Shared Security to manage the DoS profiles and log profiles that are part of each virtual server.

Within Shared Security, only the DoS Profile and Log Profiles properties can be modified on a virtual server. To modify other virtual server properties, use the ADC service. Select ADC from the BIG-IQ menu and click Virtual Servers to modify other properties of a virtual server.

  1. Click Shared Security and then click Virtual Servers on the left.
  2. In the Virtual Servers screen, click the name of the virtual server to edit.
  3. In the Virtual Servers - virtual server name screen, edit the DoS Profile or Log Profiles properties.
    Property Description
DoS Profile Select the DoS profile to use from the list. DoS profiles are defined using the Shared Security DoS Profiles screen.
Log Profiles Specify the one or more log profiles to use by moving them into the Selected list. Use the arrow buttons to move log profiles between the Available and Selected lists. Log profiles are defined using the Shared Security Logging Profiles screen.
  4. Click Save to save your changes as you go.
  5. When you are finished, click Save & Close to save changes and return to the Virtual Servers screen.
